Getting Started

What is WatchZang?

WatchZang is a personal entertainment tracker app for iOS that helps you discover, organize, and track movies and TV shows. It features AI-powered recommendations, episode tracking, custom collections, streaming availability information, and much more.

Think of it as your personal entertainment assistant that keeps track of everything you want to watch, what you're currently watching, and helps you discover new content based on your preferences.

Is WatchZang free to use?

Yes! WatchZang is completely free to download and use. All features are available at no cost, with no hidden fees, subscriptions, or in-app purchases.

What platforms is WatchZang available on?

WatchZang is currently available for iOS devices (iPhone and iPad) through the Apple App Store. Support for additional platforms may be added in the future based on user demand.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is required to use WatchZang. All your data is stored locally on your device, which means:

  • Your data remains private and secure
  • No personal information is collected
  • The app works completely offline
  • Instant access without signing in

Using the App

How do I add movies or TV shows to my library?

To add content to your library:

  • Browse or search for a movie or TV show in the Discover tab
  • Tap on the item to open the detail view
  • Tap the bookmark icon to add it to your library
  • The item will appear in your Movies or TV Shows tab
How do I track TV show episodes?

Episode tracking is easy:

  • Open any TV show from your library
  • Tap on the show to open the detail view
  • You'll see all seasons and episodes listed
  • Tap the checkbox next to any episode to mark it as watched
  • Tap "Mark Season as Watched" to mark an entire season
  • Progress bars show your completion percentage
What are collections and how do I use them?

Collections allow you to organize your content into custom groups. For example, you might create collections for "Date Night Movies," "Summer Shows," or "Action Favorites."

To create and use collections:

  • Go to the Movies or TV Shows tab
  • Tap "Create New Collection"
  • Give it a name, description, and choose a color
  • Add movies or TV shows by tapping the collection icon on any item
  • Access your collections anytime from the library
How does the random picker work?

Can't decide what to watch? The random picker helps you choose:

  • Open the Movies or TV Shows tab
  • Tap the dice icon to start the coin flip animation
  • WatchZang will randomly select something from your library
  • You can flip again if you want a different selection
  • Tap "View Details" to see more info or start watching
How do I use filters?

Filters help you find exactly what you're looking for:

  • Tap the "Filters" button in the Discover tab
  • Choose from genre, streaming service, region, rating, and more
  • Apply filters to see only matching content
  • Save your favorite filter combinations as presets
  • Clear filters anytime to see all content again

AI Recommendations

How do AI recommendations work?

WatchZang uses advanced AI models to provide personalized recommendations based on:

  • Your saved movies and TV shows
  • Your preferred genres
  • Your streaming services
  • Conversational context when you chat with the AI

The AI can answer questions like "What should I watch tonight?" or "Recommend a comedy similar to The Office."

Which AI models does WatchZang use?

WatchZang integrates multiple AI providers for the best recommendations:

  • OpenAI (GPT-4o)
  • Anthropic (Claude)
  • Grok

You can choose your preferred AI model in the settings. Different models may provide different recommendation styles.

Technical Questions

Does WatchZang work offline?

Yes! All your saved content is stored locally on your device, so you can browse your library and collections without an internet connection. However, you'll need internet to:

  • Search for new content
  • Get AI recommendations
  • Load poster images
  • View streaming availability
Where does WatchZang get its movie and TV show data?

WatchZang uses The Movie Database (TMDB) API, one of the most comprehensive entertainment databases available. TMDB provides information on millions of movies and TV shows, including:

  • Plot summaries and descriptions
  • Cast and crew information
  • Release dates and ratings
  • Posters and backdrop images
  • Streaming availability by region
How much storage does WatchZang use?

WatchZang is very lightweight. The app itself is small, and stored data (your library and collections) takes minimal space. Even with hundreds of saved items, WatchZang typically uses less than 50MB of storage.

Will my data sync across devices?

Currently, data is stored locally on each device and does not sync across devices. Cloud sync is a feature we're considering for future updates. You can let us know if this is important to you!

Troubleshooting

The app isn't loading content. What should I do?

If you're having trouble loading new content:

  • Check your internet connection
  • Make sure you have the latest version of the app
  • Try force-quitting and reopening the app
  • Restart your device if the issue persists

Your saved library should still be accessible offline. If problems continue, please contact support.

I lost my saved content. Can I get it back?

If you've lost your library:

  • Make sure you're using the same device
  • Check if the app was uninstalled and reinstalled (this clears local data)
  • Ensure you didn't clear app data in iOS settings

Unfortunately, since data is stored locally without cloud backup, it cannot be recovered if deleted. We're working on backup options for future versions.

AI recommendations aren't working. What's wrong?

If AI recommendations aren't responding:

  • Verify you have an active internet connection
  • Try selecting a different AI model in settings
  • Check if the AI service is experiencing downtime
  • Restart the app
